The Best Wedding Dress Silhouette for Your Body Type

Updated: Jan 26

Finding the right wedding dress for your big day is quite the undertaking. You should consider your desired style and budget, but another essential thing to consider is what dress suits your body type best. Of course, brides can look fabulous in any dress they choose, but sometimes, picking a dress that hugs your curves in all the right places can give you the confidence you need on such a special day! In this article, we will go over different body types and what gowns look amazing on them.

If you have an apple body type, your shoulders and hips are narrower than your waistline. Proportionally, you carry more weight through your chest and stomach.

Great To Try: Ballgowns or A-line dresses add definition to the waist and volume to the hips.

Tip: Try to avoid gowns that are fitted through the midsection.

If you have a pear body type, your shoulders are likely narrower than your hips. Proportionally, you carry more weight through your hips, butt, and thighs.

Great To Try: Fit and flare gowns with sleeves show off your curves and balance your more petite upper body.

Tip: Try to avoid empire-cut gowns, as they can create a bulkier figure.

If you have an hourglass body type, your shoulders and hips are close in width. Proportionally, you carry more weight in your chest and hips and less in your stomach.

Great To Try: Mermaid gowns with a sweetheart or plunging neckline showcase your curves.

Tip: Try to avoid adding volume to your already balanced bust and hips.

If you have a rectangle body type, your shoulders, hips, and waistline are close in width. Proportionally, you carry weight equally throughout your body.

Great To Try:  An empire-cut or A-line gown will add volume to the bottom and balance the upper and lower body.

Tip: Try to avoid gowns that are fitted through the midsection.

If you have an inverted triangle body type, your shoulders are likely wider than your hips. Proportionally, you carry more weight in your chest and stomach.

Great To Try: An A-line or ballgown with symmetrical sleeves will balance the upper and lower body.

Tip: Try to avoid dresses that emphasize broader shoulders.
